It's great that these groups are able to come over and entertain us, but WHY oh WHY, must urgent requests for accommodations ALWAYS go out a week or two before the groups arrivals? I'm sure that it takes several months of preparations to get them over here regarding visas, tickets and venues. Why can't the same planning be done for accommodations?

Isn't there enough room at Tartu College, couldn't a special fund be set up for that too? Can't Tartu offer some sort of discount rate for the group? Since it's virtually on the TTC line it would make transportation so much easier for all involved. Heck they could even "sing for their supper" at Tartu and Eesti Maja.

But that's my two cents worth

The experience for first time Estonian visitors to Toronto staying with local Estonians is far more conducive to stronger longer term personal and nationalistic connections for both visitors and hosts!
Hats off to our local hosts!

Undoubtedly it's great to stay at someone's house and have them pickup the tab. This billeting process has been going for too long. If you want to do so that's great, I and my family has done so for numerous groups and individuals. We agreed to put these individuals up when the events were planned and everyone had a great time.

But to ask for assistance a couple of weeks before the performers arrive??

If the group of boys stay together they will bond even more. By being at one location it makes for easier transportation considerations and planning outings.

Unless the performers are staying with relatives, and given the schedule they keep, I don't think the boys would care one way or another imho.

The call for help went out to the many local Esto organizations several weeks ago, frats included. And as far as a discounted rate at TC for our young visitors from Eesti, there is already such a rate in place. But for more than 50 visitors for almost a week, this is still a huge expense to cover.

Vastaja,

IMHO this then should be considered when inviting performers over here in the first place. Perhaps a fund drive via Sihtkapital so the donations could yield a right-off.

Since this particular event took many months to plan, IMHO the organizers didn't spend enough time planning on accommodations.

Couldn't the Management at Tartu College have given out the rooms for free, or is there such a demand at their facility during the summer months?

Always remember George - your two cents is worth diddly squat in Canada!

A little harsh there, Georgie? As far as I can tell, organizing for this event has been going strong for more than a year. Could it be that they need to shore up some last-minute spots to house some singers? No need to jump to conclusions that the whole shebang if off the rails. Not good for your blood pressure. ;)

An update,

Thanks for the reminder, I should have said my three cents

What are you talking about? Curious George is just politely asking about travel arrangements for the choir and criticizing the organizers for not bringing it up any sooner (in his opinion).
