I think you misread the quote. Trump was being ironic about the Article 5. He didn't specifically confirm anything. He just said "we defend anyone" (which is stupid in his opinion when you actually read his foreign policy quotes in twitter and facebook).
I wouldn't count on Trump. He's a loudmouth, ignoramus and shady businessman.
