This isn't one of his better pieces.
Can we not lift this debate into the current century or must we have to continue to concoct ridiculous hyperbole to underscore oversimplified philisophical arguments?
Perhaps he should take a bit more effort to work on today's issues rather than obsesively dwelling on the arguments he had during his heady days at university.

A good point. Now that a leftist government is running the USA and communism is making a huge comeback in Latin America we should not focus on the events of a few decades ago.

It is hard to understand the original decisions and rhetoric of members of the National Capital Commission. What all of this does underscore, however, is that much work needs to be done to achieve full condemnation of communist crimes and educate the public. The monument is Ottawa will be a powerful symbolic reminder of these crimes. The National Capital Commission will be donating the land. $1.5 million of private money now needs to be raised for the monument, including a national juried design competition. Details for this major campaign will be unveiled in the next few weeks and Tribute to Liberty with Founding Partner Open Group Book, is looking for strong support from individuals and all groups in the Estonian community and all Canadians.

Condemning communist crimes will have very limited effect if the crimes of USSR against many European states and their own peoples will not be duly judged by an international court.

Harri-there's just one thing you've failed to take into account. And that is that most of the intellectual world has sided with any left-wing organization for the better part of 60 years, and nothing is about to change that fact. Siding with Russia comes much easier that with Germany, whose racial crimes and eugenic practices can never be forgiven, though I myself have forgiven the Germans a long time ago. But the world won't follow suit.

So, "I myself have forgiven the Germans a long time ago. But the world won't follow suit."
So what? Is there anyone in the world who cares about what Maxim de la Trine "thinks" (sic.)? Even his mother is ashamed of him.

A good point.
I also think that there are better ways to raise awareness. An expensive monument tucked away in a corner in Ottawa does not strike me as the best way to do this and will probably have a limited effect in this regard.
