Professor Parrot's successful ascent of Mt. Ararat was indeed a milestone in world mountaineering history. I wish the Estonian climbers good luck in their 180th anniversary commemoration of that remarkable feat.
However, let us not forget that he was not alone on the summit on that special day. Standing together with him were three Armenians; Khatchadur Abovian, Hovannes Aivazian, Murat Poghossian, and two Russian soldiers. I personally was fortunate to successfuly summit Ararat in 2003.
In the name of brotherhood and goodwill I call on my Estonian friends to reach out and extend a welcoming invitaton to their Armenian and Russian fellow climbers, for this is what Professor Parrot would have done if he was with us today!
