Why should this be more than what we should expect as a matter of course? Perhaps, it's because dealings with the Aukonsulaat at Toronto's Eesti maja can be exceeding unpleasant, involving snobbery that amounts to downright rudeness. It's unacceptable.

0Please allow me to clarify that renewing (or applying for) the Estonian passport is not free of charge. There is a state fee for consular services offered by the Embassies and government agencies, and it also applies to passport applications.

0I have NEVER experienced snooty attitudes in the aukonsulaat!
Maybe the way one is treated reflects on one's own attitude and manner when approaching consular staff.
(As far as I know, they don't even get paid for their "honorary" positions - correct me if I'm mistaken)

0Since silence is often mistaken for concurrence, on this point I won’t remain quiet. Based on my experience, our Consulate goes the extra mile and then some for us. Accordingly, I am in full agreement with Anna Nüüm. If Anonymous has had a bad experience, then it likely was an isolated incident unworthy of extrapolation.
Anonymous’ nameless attack is cowardly and that should be reason enough to be ashamed.

0Criticism of our community leaders' performance are, by necessity, anonymous. Otherwise, someone might just say, "noh, tee siis ise!"

0I don't think Anonymous has ever visited the Consulate. I've had dealings with them many times. Have always been treated graciously and the consular staff will bend over backworfds to help in any sistuation, even in areas with which they do not have to deal.

0When I phoned to enquire if my Estonian passport picture had to be black and white or could be in colour, whether I could wear my glasses or should remove them, and whether I should smile or be serious, I was told by Toomas Heinsoo it didn't matter. Needless to say I had to get my photo re-done.

0My experience at the Honorary Consulate was not pleasant but, to be absolutely fair, I think that the lady serving me was trying to be "professional". Instead, it came across as haughty. I don't think that it was intended to be that way.
