0This is much worse than buying votes! Bureaucrats skive money out of the taxpayer and spread it among the "leaders" of ethnic communities as they see fit, (minus a 50% administration free).
In the pre-Trudeau era, immigrants came to Canada and built their community organizations on their own and with great success.
Today, they step off the plane aware of their entitlements (welfare) and demanding our conformity to their odious heritage (Sharia law).

0Forgive me for being obtuse, but it seems that Adu is talking out of both sides of his mouth here.
On the one hand, at the beginning of his article he bemoans the fact that “the Minister Colle had to resign in shame” because he gave an average of $320,000 to each of 100 ethnic groups without proper (if any) documentation / justification.
Then, on the other hand, he points out the excesses that have occurred because of a lack of controls e.g. a Cricket club linked to the Liberals asks for $150,000 and is granted $1,000,000 instead.
While I suspect Adu is attempting to be sarcastic here, it is very far from clear.
What is clear is that Colle deserved to be "run out of town".

0Multiculturalism has its own rules and regs, borne out of the need to spread the good word about ethnicity. Estonians are the ultimate losers in this sense, because of their dismal collective numbers compared with the mighty Chinese community. Colle simply played by the cut-throat rules which any free-wheeling-dealing minister with bags of money to give away would have done. I've always believed in not giving a cent to any community, and seeing how they fare on their own. After all, how important is multiculturalism to us? Is it worth trying to make it survive without govt. financial assistance? If it ever becomes an argument among Canadian voters, I think the answer would be pretty clear to everyone. Canada needs to rid itself totally of the multicultural beast.

0Raudkivi seems to approve of efficiency -- where a Minister can sidestep "a ton of paperwork" by redistributing "a measly 32 million dollars" arbitrarily.
I wonder if it holds for the other side of the equation? Should citizens be able to sidestep "a ton of paperwork" by sending the Government a cheque for an amount that seems about right instead of filing a detailed tax returm?

You are right. I was trying to be funny, and I failed. When the Auditor-General declared the procedure a mess and when the Premier Dalton McGuinty actually apologized it is obvious.
