Unfortunately I live too far away to attend this very interesting sounding movie.
I gather that Latvian units were also involved in similar duties with the US army immediately after the war.
I understand that the escort of inmates into the court hall at Nuremberg itself as well as escort to executions were the exclusvie preserve of regular US MPs, not Baltic paramilitary units that looked after perimeter security.
Pictures of US soldiers available (especially in court) on line show them wearing sidearms, but the Baltic units are shown with batons only.
Does anyone out there know if this
was this deliberate on the part of US authorities or were the Baltic guard units in fact issued firearms and ammunition?

0Prior to the full development of Labour Service Company 4221, there were 2 half platoons independently in service. The one guarding the US army PX stores in Fürth consisted of Estonians.
The second half platoon consisted of an equal number of Latvians and Estonians.
I, Ltn. Tarmo Rae, was the commanding officer of this unit. We were guarding a large US Army gasoline dump.
Estonian company 4221 was on duty at the prisoners cell area with batons only, but earlier, in refresher training at the Mannheim US Army training centre (Jan & Feb, 1947), we were trained using firearms with live ammunition.

There are many sons and daughters & grandchildren who may not be able to attend the screening, but would love to know about this part of their father's / grandfather's history.

He claims to have been a captain in the US army yet the article states that his rank insignia consisted of red bars rather than the silver "railroad tracks" a US captain wears.
